A man and woman have been charged and multiple weapons seized following a vehicle pursuit in the state’s Central Western Slopes.
About 12pm yesterday (Monday 26 August 2019), police attempted to stop a Holden commodore travelling north on the Newell Highway through Coonabarabran for the purpose of a Random Breath Test.
Police allege the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit commenced along the Newell and Oxley Highway approximately 20km from the township. The pursuit was terminated a short time later.
About 12.30pm, police re-engaged in a pursuit with the vehicle travelling in an easterly direction along the Oxley Highway near Rocky Glen and into the Mullaley township. The pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, police observed the vehicle in Coolah where it was recorded by PolAir as it travelled along the Golden Highway near Dunedoo before coming to a stop in bushland off the highway.
Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District arrested a man and woman, aged 31 and 32, at the location.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a rifle, air rifle, taser, extendable baton, knife, drug paraphernalia and multiple items believed to be the proceeds of crime.
The duo was taken to Mudgee Police Station and charged with 18 offences.
The male driver was charged with police pursuit (x2), possess firearm (x2), possess ammunition, drive whilst disqualified, possess prohibited weapon, custody of knife, possess equipment to administer prohibited drug, drive unregistered vehicle and drive speed dangerous.
The woman was charged with possess firearm (x2), possess ammunition, possess prohibited weapon (x2), custody of knife and possess equipment to administer prohibited drug.
They were bail refused to appear before Mudgee Local Court today (Tuesday 27 August 2019).
