NSW police charge man and woman after string of break and enters at Wollongong

A man and woman have been charged following a string of break and enter offences in the state’s south.

Between 4pm on Saturday 29 January 2022 and 5.50am on Sunday 30 January 2022, police were told a silver Subaru Impreza was stolen from an address on Campbell Street, Wollongong.

The Subaru was allegedly used to force entry into a telecommunications store on Flinders Street just after 5.50am on Sunday (30 January 2022) where over $4,000 worth of products were stolen.

About 2.30pm on Monday 31 January 2022, a Toyota Echo was allegedly broken into while parked in a shopping centre carpark on Lake Entrance Road, Shellharbour City Centre. Over $1,400 worth of property was stolen from the vehicle.

About 7.20pm on Tuesday 1 February 2022, a vehicle parked in the carpark of a shopping centre on the corner of King and Cowper Streets, Warrawong, was also allegedly broken into, with a bag and wallet stolen.

Following inquiries, the stolen Subaru Impreza was observed in the carpark of a shopping centre on Burelli Street, Wollongong, yesterday (Thursday 10 February 2022) with police arresting the driver, a 39-year-old woman.

She was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Police will allege in court the woman was involved in the break and enter offence in Shellharbour.

The Albion Park Rail woman was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 1 March 2022.

Following further inquiries, about 6.30pm today (Friday 11 February 2022), a 32-year-old man was arrested allegedly hiding in a car on Smith Street, Wollongong.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with:

  • Destroy or damage property (x2)
  • Larceny (x2)
  • Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier (x2)
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (x2)
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Break and enter house etc steal value

Police will allege in court the man stole the Subaru and used the vehicle in the break and enter offences throughout January and February 2022.

The Wollongong man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 12 February 2022).
