NSW police charge man and woman over extortion, kidnapping conspiracy

A man and woman will face court today, charged by Raptor Squad officers over an alleged conspiracy to extort, kidnap and assault another man in Sydney’s Inner West.

Earlier this month, officers from the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad were made aware that a man and woman, who were involved in an ongoing business dispute with another man, had allegedly made arrangements with a third party to kidnap and extort him.

During the investigation, police identified the man and woman allegedly paid $10,000 on Friday 17 December 2021 for the man to be kidnapped.

Following extensive inquiries, Raptor Squad officers executed a search warrant at a Cabarita home just after 6am yesterday (Tuesday 21 December 2021).

During a subsequent search of the address, police seized clothing, electronic devices and documentation, which will undergo further forensic analysis.

A man and woman – aged 48 and 43 – were arrested at the home and taken to Burwood Police Station, where they were both charged with two counts each of take or detain person with intent to obtain advantage, and demand with menaces intend obtain gain or cause loss.

Police will allege in court that the pair directed a third party to kidnap and harm a man with whom they were in an ongoing dispute.

They were both refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Wednesday 22 December 2021).
