NSW police charge man over armed robbery at Armidale

A man has been charged following an attempted armed robbery in the state’s Northern Tablelands.

About 1.25am yesterday (Wednesday 11 November 2020), a man – armed with a box cutter – entered a business on Marsh Street, Armidale, and approached a staff member.

The man allegedly demanded cash while threatening the employee with the weapon; however, he left the store empty handed.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended a short time later and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 21-year-old man following a vehicle stop on Taylor Street, Armidale, about 8.30am today (Thursday 12 November 2020).

He was taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and destroy or damage property – less than $2000.

The man was bail refused to appear before Armidale Local Court today (Thursday 12 November 2020).
