NSW police charge man over historic sexual assault of young boy

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged historic sexual assault of a young boy in Sydney’s north west, more than 30 years ago.

In September last year, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation into allegations of historic child sexual assault by a man in Sydney’s north west between 1985 and 1989.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 65-year-old man at a home near Burwood on Wednesday 29 September 2020.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with sexual assault (Cat 4 – assault and act of indecency person under 16 years), sexual assault (Cat 3 – person under 16 years) and sexual assault (Cat 4 – assault and indecent act person between 14 and 16 years).

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted a boy – then aged between 10 and 14 – who was known to him, at various locations in Sydney’s north west between 1985 and 1989.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Monday 2 November 2020).
