NSW police charge man over outstanding warrants, DV and fraud offences at Lake Illawarra

Police have charged a man wanted on outstanding arrest warrants in the state’s Illawarra.

Investigations began after a man allegedly made threats to a woman known to him on Friday 29 July 2022.

After failing to appear in Wollongong Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 10 August 2022) and following inquiries, officers attached to the Southern High Visibility Police Unit attended a unit in Todd Street, Warrawong, where they located a man hiding, about 6.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 August 2022).

Checks confirmed the 35-year-old was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

He was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with use carriage service to menace/harass/offend, threaten to distribute intimate image without consent (DV), be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, and two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.

He was also charged with two outstanding warrants for traffic, fraud, stealing and breach of bail offences.

Police will allege in court that the man committed several paywave offences at a service station in Dapto yesterday (Wednesday 10 August 2022), using cards stolen from a Wollongong address, before fleeing in a blue Mazda 6 hatchback also stolen from a Wollongong address on Saturday 7 August 2022.

The Nowra man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 11 August 2022).
