NSW police charge man over sexual assault of teenage girl near Wagga Wagga

Police have charged a man over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in the state’s Riverina region last week.

Last Friday (30 October 2020), detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 16-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man, who is known to her, at a home near Wagga Wagga.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 47-year-old man at a home at Ashmont just before 3pm yesterday (Sunday 1 November 2020).

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent and two counts of sexually touch another person without consent.

He was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Monday 2 November 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
