NSW police charge man over sexual assault of young girl

A man will reappear in court today charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl on the state’s Central Coast more than 10 years ago.

In June 2018, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young girl had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her between 2009 and 2010.

Following extensive investigations, detectives, with assistance from Brisbane Water Police District, arrested a 52-year-old man at a home on the Central Coast last Friday (18 September 2020).

The man was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with attempt sexual intercourse with person under 10 years, indecent assault person under 16 years of age, sexual intercourse person under 10 under authority and groom child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted the girl – then aged between five and seven – on several occasions between January 2009 and May 2010.

He appeared at Gosford Local Court on Friday 18 September 2020, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today (Monday 21 September 2020).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
