NSW police charge man with attempted murder at Broken Hill

A man will appear in court today charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault in Broken Hill at the weekend.

About 9.45pm on Saturday 28 May 2022, emergency services were called to Argent Street, Broken Hill, after a woman was found injured.

The 40-year-old woman – who had been allegedly assaulted by a man known to her – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Broken Hill Hospital.

She was later transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition with significant head injuries.

The man fled the scene following the alleged assault and was unable to be located.

About 3.45am on Sunday 29 May 2022, officers attached to Barrier Police District attended a home on Jamieson Street following reports of a fire.

The fire was extinguished a short time later by NSW Fire and Rescue officers; however, the home was significantly damaged.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Broken Hill Police Station, before being transferred to Broken Hill Base Hospital for treatment.

The man was released from hospital yesterday (Tuesday 31 May 2022), and taken to Broken Hill Police Station, where he was charged with nine offences including attempted murder (DV), wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (DV), damage property with intent to endanger life, armed with intent, common assault (DV), and intimidation (DV).

He was refused bail and will appear at the Dubbo Local Court today (Wednesday 1 June 2022).
