NSW police charge man with child sex offences at Lake Macquarie

A man has been charged with alleged child sex offences in the state’s Lake Macquarie region.

In April 2019, detectives from Lake Macquarie Police District established Strike Force Arapaima to re-examine the investigation into the unsolved disappearances and suspected murders of three teenage girls in the Lake Macquarie area.

As a result of extensive inquiries through this investigation, strike force detectives uncovered allegations of alleged child sexual offences against two teenage boys between 1987 and 2007 in Lake Macquarie and on the Mid North Coast.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives attended a Belmont home and arrested a 56-year-old man about 9.30am today (Wednesday 2 June 2021).

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with 13 offences including:

  • Sexual intercourse with person between 10 & 16 years (x6)
  • Sex assault (Cat 4) Indecent assault person under 16 under authority (x2)
  • Sex assault (Cat 4) indecent act, person under 16 under authority (x4)
  • Aggravated indecent assault victim under the age of 16 years

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 3 June 2021).

Investigations under Strike Force Arapaima are ongoing.
