NSW police charge man with driving offences after fatal crash in May

An Oberon man has been charged in relation to a fatal crash in the state’s Central Tablelands in May.

About 2pm Wednesday 22 May 2019, officers from Chifley Police District were called to a crash at Black Springs, near Oberon, west of the Blue Mountains.

It is alleged the vehicle was towing a trailer in a northerly direction on Abercrombie Road when the driver, aged 30, lost control and the utility rolled.

The front seat passenger, a 42-year-old man from Oberon, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver was airlifted to Orange Base Hospital, suffering minor injuries.

Officers from the Central West and Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.

About 9.30am today (Tuesday 3 September 2019), the 30-year-old man was arrested at a home on Scotia Avenue at Oberon.

He was taken to Oberon Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death (DUI), dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and drive with illicit drug in blood.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Bathurst Local Court on Monday 14 October 2019.
