NSW police charge man with firearm possession

A man has been charged with firearm possession after a vehicle stop on the Far North Coast today.

About 1pm (Wednesday 16 October 2019) police were notified after a motorist was reportedly seen with a firearm.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District were patrolling the M1, south of Tweed Heads, and stopped a vehicle at the Sleepy Hollow rest stop.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located a prohibited ‘gel blaster’, and three boxes containing prohibited firearms in the boot.

The passenger, a 30-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.

Police will allege in court; the man was seen by motorists pointing the firearm out of the window of a vehicle travelling south on the M1.

He was charged with four counts of possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm and use unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm.

The Casino man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday 11 November 2019.
