NSW police charge man with fraud offences after extradition

A man will appear in court today after being extradited from Queensland for an outstanding warrant relating to fraud offences.

About 8am on Thursday 20 August 2020, Queensland Police arrested a 57-year-old man on a beach at Port Douglas.

Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command travelled to Queensland, where they applied for, and were granted, the man’s extradition to NSW.

The man was flown to Sydney yesterday (Monday 24 August 2017) in the company of NSW detectives and was taken to Mascot Police Station.

He was charged with five counts of publish false misleading material to obtain advantage, ten counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime with intent to conceal.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 25 August 2020).

Police will allege in court that the man defrauded a man in Hong Kong of nearly $2 million dollars through an online scam.
