NSW police charge man with kidnapping, withholding assistance at Sutherland

A man has been charged with detaining another person and not providing sufficient care.

About 8.30pm on Wednesday 20 November 2019, a man allegedly attended an aged care facility in Sutherland and accompanied an 83-year-old man, who is known to him, out of the premises.

Police attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries.

Following inquiries, the older man was located in a Melbourne hospital on Friday 22 November 2019 and later returned to the facility.

Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a 41-year-old man at a Mangrove Mountain home about 11.15am yesterday (Tuesday 7 January 2020).

He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage (DV) and refuse to provide necessities of life injure health.

Police will allege in court that after taking the older man from the facility the younger man failed to provide adequate medical care.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday 15 January 2020.
