NSW police charge man with multiple offences after pursuit

A man has been charged with multiple offences after pursuit with police at Bathurst yesterday.

About 7am (Wednesday 19 Febraury 2020), a man was involved in a domestic-related incident at a Cowra home, where it is alleged the tyres of a vehicle were slashed before the man left in a Mitsubishi Lancer.

A short time later, police received reports that a Mitsubishi Lancer was involved in a fail to stop collision on the Mid Western Highway, 25kms north of Cowra.

About 8.15am, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attached to Chifley Police District attempted to stop the Mitsubishi Lancer; however, the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated, travelling north along the Mid Western Highway.

At Fitzgeralds Mount, roads spikes were successfully deployed; however, the Mitsubishi continued travelling towards Bathurst before it was involved in a minor collision with a police vehicle.

The vehicle stopped and after a brief struggle, the driver, a 41-year-old man was arrested. He was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital under police guard for treatment of minor injuries.

The man has since been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, destroy or damage property, negligent driving, not give particulars to other driver, responsible person/custodian not disclose driver’s details and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.

He was refused bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2020).
