NSW police charge man with murder after extradition

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged after being extradited from Queensland following the fatal stabbing of another man in the state’s far north.

Just before 11.40pm on Friday (2 September 2022), emergency services were called to Brown Street, Boggabilla, following reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers attached to New England Police District found a 32-year-old man suffering stab wounds.

Police commenced CPR, before he was treated by QLD Ambulance paramedics. He was taken to Goondiwindi Hospital where he died a short time later.

Following inquiries, with assistance from Queensland Police, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a home in Goondiwindi, about 1.30am on Saturday (3 September 2022).

Detectives attached to New England Police District travelled to Queensland, where they applied for, and were granted, the man’s extradition to NSW at Toowoomba Magistrates Court today (Monday 5 September 2022).

The man was escorted by police to Moree Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 6 September 2022).

Detectives attached to New England Police District have established Strike Force Bruntnell to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
