NSW police charge man with stabbing at Goulburn

A man will face court today charged after allegedly stabbing another man during an altercation in Goulburn.

About 11.30pm yesterday (Sunday 23 February 2020) a group of men were socialising at a unit on Goldsmith Street, Goulburn.

A 23-year-old man attended the unit and a fight allegedly broke out between three of the men.

During the alleged incident, the 23-year-old man produced a kitchen knife and stabbed a 20-year-old man in the leg.

The altercation continued down the stairs of the unit block and onto Goldsmith Street.

Police will allege the 23-year-old threatened an 18-year-old man with a knife, demanding he pay for damage to a vehicle, before punching him in the face.

The 23-year-old then fled the scene on foot.

Officers from The Hume Police District attended and established a crime scene.

The 20-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Goulburn Hospital. He sustained a puncture wound to his left leg.

A knife believed to be used in the incident was found under the wheel of a car parked at the front of the unit.

About 2.45am (Monday 24 February 2020) police attended a home in Goulburn and arrested the 23-year-old man.

He was taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he was charged with reckless wounding – grievous bodily harm, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and an outstanding warrant for a domestic violence related offence.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Goulburn Local Court today (Monday 24 February 2020).
