NSW police charge teen over armed robbery

A teenager who was detained by staff and a customer during an alleged armed robbery in Sydney’s west yesterday, has now been charged.

Just before 5.40pm (Wednesday 7 October 2020), police were called to a tobacco shop on Simmat Avenue, Condell Park, following reports of an armed robbery.

A male, allegedly armed with a knife, entered the store and threatened two staff members, demanding cash.

The employees and a customer managed to run outside, while holding the door to the shop closed.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and found a 16-year-old boy being held inside.

He was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The teen was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Thursday 8 October 2020).
