NSW police charge teens after woman stabbed at Newtown

Three teenagers have been charged after a woman was allegedly stabbed in Sydney’s Inner West overnight.

Officers have been told a female off-duty police officer stopped to assist a distressed teenage girl on Alice Street, Newtown, about 1am this morning (Sunday 6 September 2020), when she was confronted by a group of teenagers.

During the incident the off-duty Sergeant suffered a stab wound to her torso. She was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Three teenagers were arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where the following charges were laid:

  • A 15-year-old boy from Randwick was charged with reckless wounding, possess prohibited drug, and enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse. He was refused bail and will appear in a children’s court tomorrow (Monday 7 September 2020).
  • A 15-year-old boy from Punchbowl was charged with enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse. He was given conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Monday 21 September 2020.
  • A 14-year-old girl from Marrickville has been charged with common assault. She has been refused bail and will appear in a children’s court tomorrow.

The woman is a serving NSW Police Officer attached to a specialist command. She was off-duty at the time of the incident.
