NSW police charge two after laser pointed at PolAir and civilian aircraft

Two men have been charged after allegedly pointing a laser at a civilian aircraft and a NSW Police Force aircraft in Sydney’s west last week.

About 9pm last Friday (5 November 2021), a civilian aircraft was flying in the Fairfield Heights area when the pilot was allegedly struck repeatedly by a laser.

PolAir4 identified the alleged location of the laser and coordinated ground crews attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command to attend a park in Zahlee Street, Fairfield Heights, where they located and spoke to three men.

Following an investigation, three men attended Fairfield Police Station yesterday (Wednesday 10 November 2021).

Two men – aged 21 and 22 – were each charged with prejudicing the safe operation of a division 3 aircraft (x2), possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and do act to threaten safety of aircraft/persons on board (x2).

Both men are due to appear before Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 8 December 2021.

The third man –aged 21– was released pending further investigation.
