NSW police charge two men after throwing motorcycle parts

Police have charged two men found hiding in a roof after allegedly breaking into a Wollongong home overnight.

About 1.20am (Friday 10 April), police were called to a home on New Dapto Road, following reports it had been broken into.

Officers from Wollongong Police Area Command attended and surrounded the home, with the assistance of Traffic and Highway Patrol officers.

Police searched the property and heard movement in the roof. When they called out, motorcycle parts were thrown at them from a cavity.

Officers attempted to negotiate but objects continued to be thrown at them with a muffler striking an officer, causing minor injuries to their leg.

A short time later, with the assistance of Police Rescue, officers gained entry to the roof and arrested two men, aged 29 and 45, after a short struggle.

They were taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter, enter enclosed lands, and resist arrest.

The younger man was also charged with breach of bail.

Both men appeared in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 10 April 2020) where they were formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday 14 April 2020.
