NSW police charge two men over carjacking; robbery at Penshurst

Two men will face court charged over an alleged carjacking and robbery in Sydney’s south last week.

About 11pm (Saturday 20 February 2021), a 47-year-old man was sitting in his Toyota Hino on Cambridge Street, Penshurst, when he was approached by two men, aged – 30 and 45 – one of whom was known to him.

Police were told the 30-year-old man allegedly assaulted the driver through the open door, punching him to the head. The driver sustained a laceration to his face.

The 30-year-old man then allegedly took possession of the vehicle.

The driver left the scene and notified police. Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

On Monday 22 February 2021, police located the Toyota Hino on Sproule Street, Lakemba.

Following extensive inquiries, about 9am on Thursday 25 February 2021, police executed two search warrants at separate homes on Sproule Street, Lakemba, where they arrested the two men. Both men were taken to Campsie Police Station.

The 30-year-old man was charged with robbery in company, possess prohibited drug and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – second offence.

The 45-year-old man was charged with robbery in company.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (Friday 26 February 2021).
