NSW police charge two over axe assault

Two people have been charged after a man was struck with an axe at Albion Park at the weekend.

Just after 6.30pm on Sunday (19 December 2021), police were called to a home on Roper Road, Albion Park, after reports of an assault.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and located a 19-year-old man, suffering a head laceration. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital.

The man was injured after allegedly being struck with an axe during an altercation with two men, who attended the home and smashed a number of windows before fleeing.

A crime scene was established, which has been forensically examined.

Detectives commenced an investigation and as part of inquiries, a 34-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at Mount Druitt Police Station yesterday (Monday 20 December 2021).

They were both charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and three counts of destroy or damage property.

Both were granted conditional bail with the man to appear at Port Kembla Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 22 December 2021), and the teen to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 11 January 2022.

The men are known to each other.
