NSW police charge woman after alleged child abduction

A woman has been charged after allegedly abducting a child from a house in the state’s Far West.

About 4.05am yesterday (Monday 25 March 2019), police will allege a 32-year-old woman was at a house on Pell Street, Broken Hill, when she left the house in a vehicle, believed to be stolen, with a 2-year-old child.

The mother notified police when she woke up 15 minutes later.

Officers from Barrier Police District attended the house about 4.20am and commenced an investigation.

Just after 4.50am, the 32-year-old woman returned to the house and gave the child back to the mother before immediately leaving.

Following inquiries, she was arrested on Galena Street, near Blende Street, Broken Hill and taken to Broken Hill Police Station about 1am today (Tuesday 26 March 2019).

The woman was charged with take/detain child with intent to remove from parental control and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

She was refused bail and will appear in Broken Hill Local Court today.

Police believe the women were known to each other.
