NSW police charge woman after making false report and initiating police investigation

A woman has been charged after allegedly providing false information and instigating a nine-hour multi-agency investigation in Sydney.

About 10.30am on Monday (22 August 2022), officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a property at Woollahra, after concerns were raised for the welfare of a 14-year-old girl.

It will be alleged in court that police were told the girl was a Foreign National and had recently arrived in Australia to stay with a foster family after fleeing abuse in her home country.

Exhaustive efforts were made by the NSW Police Force and multiple partner agencies to locate the foster family and investigate the family care and neglect claims.

As part of these inquiries, it was established the 14-year-old was actually a 33-year-old woman, who was subsequently arrested at Waverley Police Station about 7.30pm.

The woman was charged with false representation resulting in police investigation.

She appeared at Waverley Local Court, where she was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Friday (26 August 2022).
