NSW police investigate illegal hunting near Wollongong

Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of illegal hunting in a residential area north of Wollongong.

Shortly after 3am today (Thursday 5 September 2019), gun shots were heard in the vicinity of Lawrence Hargrave Drive and The Drive, Stanwell Park.

Police have been told a vehicle, possibly a small black sedan, was seen parked in the area and two men exited the car near the intersection of Railway Street.

One of the men was allegedly in possession of a large machete which he used to cut up the carcass of a deer.

The men took photos at the location before getting into the car and driving northbound from the location.

The first man was last seen wearing a red and black checked shirt and a khaki hunting-style cap.

The second man was last seen wearing a grey hooded top.

Officers from Wollongong Police District commenced investigations and are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area or may have further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
