NSW police investigating after attempted robbery at knife point at Orange

Police are appealing for information following the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in the state’s Central West.

About 2.30am yesterday (Monday 23 September 2019), a taxi driver collected a man from Coulson Place, Orange who requested to be taken to Glenroi.

The passenger directed the driver to stop near Orchard Grove Road and demanded cash from the driver.

The driver got out of the taxi and was confronted by the passenger who threatened him with a large carving knife and continued to demand cash.

The driver sounded an alarm and the man fled the location on foot. He was last seen running across empty lots in a southern direction towards Sir Neville Howse Place.

The driver attended Orange Police Station where the taxi was seized for forensic examination.

Investigators from Central West Police District are investigating the attempted robbery and are appealing for assistance to identify a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The man has been described as Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander in appearance, dark complexion, about 20 years old, slim build, no facial hair, last seen wearing a dark coloured hooded jumper and dark pants.
