NSW police investigating after car crashes through police station fence at Lake Illawarra

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a crash and subsequent vehicle fire at Albion Park Police Station this morning.

About 4.50am (Wednesday 8 January 2019), a vehicle crashed through the fencing of a car park at the Tongarra Road premises.

The vehicle left the scene and a short time later, a vehicle parked in the car park was noticed alight.

Shortly after, a car was located on fire approximately 400m east of the police station on Tongarra Road.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished both blazes.

A crime scene has been established and is currently being examined by specialist forensic officers.

Lake Illawarra Police District Acting Inspector Matt Brophey said police are eager to speak with anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Tongarra/Albion Park area.

“We believe there are people out there in the community who may have information, and we want to speak with them,” Acting Inspector Brophey said.

“We will be conducting an extensive investigation to locate and take legal action against those responsible.”
