NSW police lay charges after double stabbing in Sydney CBD

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged after a double stabbed during a brawl in Sydney’s CBD overnight.

About 11.45pm (Saturday 25 July 2020), emergency services were called to the corner of George and Liverpool Streets following reports of a brawl involving up to 16 people.

Upon arrival, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command found two men, aged 25 and 28, suffering stab wounds. They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The younger man suffered a stomach wound and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition where he has undergone surgery. The older man suffered a back wound and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred in a critical but stable condition.

Following inquiries, police arrested two men, aged 18 and 21. They were taken to Day Street Police Station.

The older man was taken to hospital for treatment before being released.

The younger man was charged with two counts of wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, custody of knife in public place, affray and wield knife in a public place.

He has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow (Monday 27 July 2020).
