NSW police lay charges after fatal crash near Tamworth

A man will face court later this year in relation to a fatal crash near Tamworth that claimed the life of a 44-year-old woman.

Just before 7.30am on Thursday 28 February 2019, emergency services were called to the New England Highway, 15km north of Bendemeer, after reports of a crash.

Police have been told a Suzuki sedan driven by a 44-year-old woman travelling north, and a Volkswagen SUV driven by a 64-year-old man travelling south, collided in the north-bound lane.

The 64-year-old Berriwillock (Victoria) man was trapped in his vehicle, before being extricated with injuries to his legs and pelvis. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 44-year-old woman was unable to revived and died at the scene.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit conducted inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with assistance from Oxley Police District.

Crash investigators have now issued a 64-year-old Victorian man with a Future court Attendance Notice for dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death. He is set to appear at Tamworth Local Court on 20 May 2019.
