NSW police lay charges after fatal pedestrian crash

A man has been charged following a fatal pedestrian crash in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs today.

About 10.15am (Wednesday 16 December 2020), emergency services were called to Grafton Street, Bondi Junction, following reports a 24-year-old woman had been hit by a bus.

Witnesses commenced CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the woman died at the scene.

Officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command established a crime scene that has been examined by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

The bus driver, a 41-year-old man, was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later returned to Waverley Police Station where he was arrested by Crash Investigators and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), and not stop at stop line at red light (not toll booth) – motor vehicle.

The man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 19 January 2021.
