NSW police lay charges over break-ins, car theft at Tamworth

Three people have been charged over alleged break-ins and the theft of a vehicle in the state’s north-west.

About 3.15am yesterday (Wednesday 7 December 2022), officers from Oxley Police District were called to a home on Bandalong Street, Hillvue, following reports of a break and enter, where a mobile phone and an Audi sedan were stolen.

Police will allege in court that the Audi was used to travel to a caravan park in Tamworth before its occupants allegedly stole several items from nearby properties.

About 4.30am yesterday, patrolling officers spotted a group of youths allegedly attempted to break into a home in Johnson Street, North Tamworth.

A short foot pursuit commenced before police arrested a 16-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy, and a 20-year-old man. All three were taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The Tenterfield man was charged with 15 offences, including:

  • larceny,
  • enter vehicle without consent of owner/occupier,
  • two counts of aggravated break, enter and steal,
  • four counts of enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • three counts of face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, and
  • three counts of enter enclosed land premises without lawful excuse.

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 8 December 2022).

The 16-year-old boy was charged with 20 offences, including:

  • three counts of aggravated break, enter and steal,
  • take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
  • two counts of breach of bail,
  • larceny,
  • enter vehicle without consent of owner/occupier,
  • three counts of enter enclosed land premises without lawful excuse,
  • five counts of enter building with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • drive while unlicensed, and
  • three counts of face disguised with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before a Children’s court yesterday.

The 13-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a Children’s Court on Tuesday 13 December 2022.

Investigations are continuing.
