NSW police lay charges over trespassing, assault of police at Camperdown

A man has been charged over allegedly assaulting police in Sydney’s inner west yesterday.

About 8.15pm (Saturday 14 January 2023), officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command were called to a business on Parramatta Road, Camperdown, following reports a man was trespassing.

Police will allege the man was intimidating staff and became aggressive towards responding officers.

The 35-year-old man allegedly punched a male constable in the face. As he was placed under arrest, the man allegedly resisted, with a male sergeant and another male constable suffering minor injuries.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with four offences, including:

  • stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm,
  • assault police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm,
  • hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
  • enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

The Hillsdale man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 15 January 2023).
