NSW police seek information after man assaulted at Wollongong

Police are appealing for information as they continue to investigate the assault of a man in the state’s Illawarra region at the weekend.

About 2.40am on Sunday (22 January 2023), emergency services were called to Crown Street, Wollongong, following reports a man had been found unconscious on the footpath.

The 24-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital before he self-discharged and travelled to Brisbane, where he attended the Prince Charles Hospital.

Scans revealed the man sustained head injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation and initial inquiries suggest the man was punched in the head and fell to the ground.

Detectives would like to speak with an unknown male that was seen on Crown Street, opposite Aitchison Street, around the time of the incident.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s with short brown hair.
