NSW police seek information after man’s body found near Tamworth

Police are appealing for information after a man’s body was discovered in the state’s New England region.

About 11.45am on Monday 18 January 2021, officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a rest area near Goonoo Goonoo Station on the New England Highway, Goonoo Goonoo, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Upon arrival, police located the body a man who is yet to be formally identified, but, is believed to be inside a campervan parked at the location.

Officers also observed drawers within the van were open and a generator previously been seen at the site was missing.

While it’s not known if the man’s death is suspicious, detectives have established an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage taken in the area or who may have seen the vehicle at the rest stop to contact police.
