NSW police seek information over Burwood house fire

Police have appealed for information as they continue to investigate the cause of a house fire at Burwood yesterday.

About 1.40pm (Saturday 29 October 2022), emergency services were called to Fitzroy Street and found the home well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the house was destroyed.

A body was located during a subsequent search; while yet be formally identified, it’s believed to be that of an 85-year-old woman who lived in the home. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine cause of death and confirm identity.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene which is this morning being forensically examined by Scene of Crime Officers and specialist fire investigators.

Burwood detectives have commenced an investigation, assisted by specialist investigators from State Crime Command.

As investigations into the incident continue, police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
