NSW police seek witnesses after suspicious bushfire

Police are appealing for public assistance following a suspicious bushfire in the state’s far south yesterday.

About 2.20pm (Saturday 11 January 2020), emergency services were called to bushland near Lake Mulwala in Mulwala, about 80km west of Albury, following reports of a fire.

The fire spread to 35 hectares of bushland before it was contained about 5.30pm. No persons or animals were injured, and no property was damaged.

Officers from Murray River Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Initial inquiries suggest the fire may have been deliberately lit.

As officers continue with their investigation, any witnesses or anyone who saw a small fishing boat in the area at the time is urged to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
