The Minns Labor Government has confirmed the upcoming NSW Preventive Health Summit will be held in Western Sydney in early October.
The Summit which forms part of the Government’s response to the Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding will focus on how to prevent disease and improve health outcomes with a strong focus on health equity for the people of NSW.
The two-day forum will bring together experts from across the health sector, multiple agencies, and other stakeholders to build consensus on potential health system and cross government approaches to support preventive health.
The NSW Preventive Health Summit will be held at Parramatta over two days on Wednesday, 7 October and Friday, 9 October.
The Summit will consider how to develop and prioritise solutions that improve health and prevent disease for communities across the state, including addressing:
- Preventing chronic disease
- Supporting mental health and wellbeing
- Increasing the focus on healthy ageing
- Focussing on priority populations including Aboriginal communities experiencing health inequities.
Discussions will be informed by NSW Health’s report prepared for the Summit, The Health of the People of NSW 2026, which includes the latest overview of the health of the NSW community.
Initial discussions are underway with a broad range of stakeholders across the health system, consumer organisations, universities, non-government organisations, clinical groups, and peak bodies to ensure a range of perspectives are reflected at the Summit.
