NSW SES Volunteers Scale Cliffs for Clean Up Australia Day

NSW State Emergency Service volunteers from the Marrickville, Collector and Blue Mountains Units put their professional skills to use for Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday.

NSW SES members from the Marrickville Unit joined the local girl guide units to clean up their local park while Vertical Rescue volunteers from the Blue Mountains Unit helped to collect tonnes of rubbish below Echo Point.

More than twenty volunteers picked up three tonnes of rubbish from Echo Point in the Blue Mountains, including a washing machine, shopping trolleys, some street signs and two beer kegs (yes, they were empty).

While volunteers were on the mountain, qualified Vertical Rescue Volunteers used their equipment to scale down the cliff face immediately below Echo Point, where they collected more than ten large bags of rubbish including a drone, a shopping trolley, a portable stereo and a mobile phone!

Some of the rubbish was taken to Katoomba Waste Depot while the rest will be airlifted out by National Parks later this year.
