Already stretched families and small businesses across NSW are under more financial pressure, with Sydney inflation hitting 3.9 per cent in the year to August, a day after interest rates reached a 15 year high.
Australian Bureau of Statistics CPI data puts Sydney well above Melbourne at 3.5 per cent.
The biggest growth in prices in the year to August was water and sewerage which increased by 29.3 per cent, fuel at 13.9 per cent and electricity which rose by 13.2 per cent.
Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane said families are paying more under Labor.
“For families already stretched to breaking point, today’s figures and yesterday’s Reserve Bank decision mean they are being forced to have confronting conversations about what else to forgo,” Ms Sloane said.
“Families are being hit with a triple whammy in NSW, higher prices and higher interest rates, while the Minns Labor Government collects 30 per cent more in taxes.”
“It’s no wonder people feel like they’re working harder than ever and not getting ahead.”
Shadow Treasurer Scott Farlow said the Minns Labor Government should also be honest about their spending and the impact that has.
“The Minns Labor Government’s spending is at record levels at $129.8 billion, at a level higher than during Covid” Mr Farlow said.
“Businesses are also being hit at a time of record insolvencies with more expensive finance, tighter margins and customers with less to spend.”
“Our payroll tax reforms will reduce the cost of employing people in NSW, because we want businesses putting money into jobs and growth.”
