There were 625 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Northern Territory in the 24 hours to 8pm on 17 January 2022. Of these, 534 were positive cases from a Rapid Antigen Test.
This takes the number of active cases in the NT to about 4,140.
New cases recorded include:
* Eight cases in Galiwinku, bringing the total number to 27
* Nine cases in Yuendumu
* Seven cases in Amoonguna
* Seven cases in Areyonga
* Four inmates at the Darwin Correctional Centre
* Six inmates and two staff at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre
* One patient the Alyerre Renal Hostel in Alice Springs
* One case at Old Timers Town Camp in Alice Springs
* One case at Abbott’s Camp in Alice Springs
* Eight cases in Utopia
* Three cases in Papunya
* One case in Alyangula
There are currently 43 patients in hospital, with 27 classified as acute hospital admissions including one patient in ICU.
1,474 COVID-19 PCR tests were processed across the NT yesterday.
Public health measures
To slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the rate of transmission the following public health measures are in place across the NT:
The Territory Vaccine Pass requires all people in the Northern Territory to show proof of their vaccination status to attend a range of businesses, venues, places and eventsA Territory-wide indoor mask mandateA lockout in Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Yuelamu and Amoonguna until 23 JanuaryA lockdown in Yirrkala until 20 January and in Galiwin’ku until 24 January.
COVID-19 testing
Everyone should get tested for COVID-19 if showing symptoms. A number of NT Rapid Antigen Testing and Distribution Points here have been established. Individuals can collect RATs for free from NT distribution centres located in Darwin, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
