NT Fire and Emergency Services Territory Day wrap up

2 July 2026

NT Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) would like to thank Territorians for celebrating Territory Day safely.

While crews responded to grassfires and other incidents throughout the night, the majority of Territorians were cracker-wise and celebrated responsibly.

Throughout 1 July 2026, career, auxiliary and volunteer firefighters from NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) and Bushfires NT (BFNT), supported by NT Emergency Service (NTES) volunteers, responded to 159 incidents across the Territory.

Crews worked tirelessly throughout the night to protect lives and property and minimise the impact of fire-related incidents.

Acting NTFES Commissioner Stephen Sewell AFSM said he was proud of the efforts of all NTFES members and partner agencies in helping ensure Territory Day was celebrated safely.

“Territory Day is always one of the busiest nights of the year for our services, which is why we plan and prepare extensively to ensure the night runs as safely as possible,” A/Commissioner Sewell said.

“I’d like to thank our firefighters, emergency service volunteers and all frontline personnel who worked through the night to keep our community safe.

“I’m also grateful to the public, who for the most part celebrated responsibly and helped reduce the demand on emergency services.

“Now that the celebrations have wrapped up for 2026, Territorians are reminded that fireworks can no longer be discharged or stored at home until next year. Any unused fireworks must be surrendered to NT WorkSafe or a remote police station.”
