NT Police Cybercrime warn of fake test message scam

Northern Territory Police Cybercrime are warning Territorians to be aware of a current fake text message scam. The offending SMS appears to be from Australia Post and the offenders are spoofing the Australia Post phone number so the message is likely to appear in the same message stream as legitimate Australia Post messages.

The message contains a link to another site that may request the recipient to enter personal identifying information or credit card details.

People who have supplied details as part of this scam are encouraged to advise their financial institution immediately. If people have suffered a loss as a result of this or other cybercrimes they can make a report at www.cyber.gov.au.
