Nursing assistant charged over assaults of aged care facility residents in Epping

A nursing assistant has been charged following an investigation into the alleged assaults of residents at an aged care facility in Sydney’s North West.

On 26 March 2022, police received a report that two residents, aged 92 and 87, had allegedly been assaulted at a facility in Epping earlier in the month.

The 87-year-old woman received facial injuries during the alleged incident.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command commenced an investigation and were made aware of alleged assaults on two further residents earlier in the year.

The residents – two 95-year-old women – were allegedly slapped by a nursing assistant.

Following inquiries, detectives attended a home on Powell Street, Homebush, about 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 30 March 2022).

A 25-year-old woman, a nursing assistant, was arrested at the home and taken to Ryde Police Station where she was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV); and three counts of common assault (DV).

The woman was refused bail and appeared at Hornsby Local Court today (Thursday 31 March 2022), where she was given bail to reappear on Tuesday 10 May 2022.
