Emergency services are at the scene of a serious single-car crash on State Highway 1, near Palmerston.
Police were called about 4.25am.
The sole occupant has died at the scene.
The road is closed, with diversions in place.
H-class vehicles heading north are asked to stop in Palmerston.
The Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene.
