An 18-year-old who failed to stop when signalled by officers is now facing more than six charges after Police caught up with him.
At around 5.34pm, Police received a report of a member of the public being chased by a person on Browns Bay Road, Rothesay Bay.
Waitematā East Area Commander, Inspector Stefan Sagar says Police located the vehicle of interest travelling southbound on East Coast Road and signalled for the driver to stop.
“The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated,” he says.
“The Police helicopter Eagle arrived shortly after and observed the vehicle driving at speed along East Coast Road to Wairau Valley.”
The offender then crashed twice, on East Coast Road, Windsor Park and Forrest Hill Road, Forrest Hill, before eventually stopping on Cabello Place, Unsworth Heights.
“During a search of the vehicle Police have located a large knife in the footwell of the passenger’s seat, another two knives in the boot, cannabis and other drug paraphyllia,” Inspector Sagar says.
“It’s extremely fortunate no member of the public was seriously injured as a result of the driver’s actions.
“I’d like to acknowledge the great work by the various Police teams involved in responding to this incident.”
An 18-year-old male will appear in North Shore District Court today charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis.
