Police can now release the name of the victim in the Massey homicide investigation.
He was 25-year-old Ramandeep Singh, who had been living in New Zealand since 2018 after moving from India.
Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor, Waitematā CIB, says Mr Singh’s family are in the process of repatriating his body back to India.
“Police and victim support are working with his family to assist then through this terrible tragedy they have suffered.”
Police were notified at around 12.10am on Monday morning of a person who had been found unresponsive at the Royal Reserve park in Beauchamp Drive in Massey and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detective Inspector Proctor says a post mortem has since been completed and revealed Mr Singh died as a result of his injuries received in an assault.
“Police are continuing to investigate and hold those involved responsible for their actions.
“We believe there was more than one person present at the time of the assault and we are appealing to those present to do the right thing and come forward.
“This was an unnecessary and callous attack on a person going about his duty in the community.
“Our hard-working team is dedicated to piecing together the events that have unfolded leading up to Mr Singh’s death and hold anyone responsible to account.”
Police would like to thank those in the community who have already come forward, and are continuing to encourage anyone who was in Royal Reserve park or the wider area, including in and around Reverie Place on Sunday night between 11.30pm and just after midnight, to come forward.
