Police can now confirm the name of the boy who died following an incident at Pauanui Beach on 10 March.
He was 13-year-old Jefferson William Crabb, known as Billy, of Matamata.
The boy’s family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Police and Maritime New Zealand are working to establish the circumstances of the incident.
