Offenders caught after Tamahere robbery

Attributable to Inspector Andrea McBeth Area Commander Hamilton City

Three young people have been arrested after an aggravated robbery incident in Tamahere last Friday morning 16 June.

At about 12.45am, three young people entered a property on Newell Road, Tamahere and attempted to steal a car from the driveway.

The offenders were confronted by the occupant of the address in the driveway. They then pushed their way inside the house, stole the occupant’s handbag and assaulted her before fleeing the address in a station wagon.

A good description of the offenders was provided to the staff and Police were able to undergo inquiries in a nearby suburb.

The three young people were located at a Riverlea address, and the vehicle located in the street. All three were arrested and the vehicle was recovered.

Two were held custody and appeared in Youth Court later that day facing charges of aggravated robbery and the third offender was referred to Youth Aid.

The victims’ property has been recovered and they are being provided with ongoing support.

Police continue to have no tolerance for this sort of offending. We will use all resources available to us to hold those committing this type of offending to account.

It’s also important for families and communities to lead the way with the right support in place from partner agencies.
