Officer charged – Central Metropolitan Region 13 May, NSW

A serving police officer has been charged after allegedly using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

Earlier this month, officers attached to the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation into an alleged telecommunications offence from January 2021 involving a male officer and a teenage boy known to him.

Following extensive inquiries, a 47-year-old male Sergeant – attached to a command in the Central Metropolitan Region – was arrested and charged with one count of use carriage service to solicit child abuse material.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 16 June 2022.

The man has been stood down from duties while his employment status is under review.
